Land of Lamia Falls on The Dark Side of the Reading Rainbow

Siblings bicker and fight - it's what they do. Still, when things get bad or scary, you don't often see them far from each others' sides. So, when Lily and Thomas awaken to find their bedroom has been transported to a monstrous new world, they stick together to solve the puzzles that stand between them and home. They'll want to hurry, as the Land of Lamia is a frightening, dangerous world. Borne of the monstrosities of a children's book, it's a deadly place for kids.

Some stuff that is made for children is outright screwed up, or frightening in unintentional ways. As such, it's not really surprising to see the creepy world of Land of Lamia being created from a story that kids have read. That story proves to be central to playing the game as well as the narrative, as the siblings will need to read an in-game book and pay attention to its details to solve the puzzles and avoid the dangers of each section of the world they find themselves in. Developer Eddy Games makes mention of a unique control scheme built around helping the two kids, which has me thinking of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. That's only a guess given the developer hasn't released any details on controls yet, nor have they released much information on the monsters beyond a few concept images reminiscent of Where the Wild Things Are. Still, Land of Lamia's art and general tone remind me of all the things that were supposed to entertain me as a kid but frightened me instead. It's scary being a child, but even when lost in another world with monsters all around, things will always be okay with your sibling around, right?
